Reading taken from st205 front & st185 CS.front & rear.

Please note all springs still had good amount of paint, which mean they were not totally knacked ..

Looks like 185 springs might be a good upgrade over stock 205 fronts

DJ - do you have a kg/mm figure for the above springs?

I feel that this isn't a direct comparison of the actual affect of spring rates between the 2 cars since the 185 has the conventional McPherson Strut and the 205 has Superstrut...

Will be interesting to see the spring rates for 205 rears

What really surprises me about this info is how linear they are for supposedly progressive springs.

spring rate based on 50mm deflection =
St205 front - 2.45 KG/mm
St185 front - 2.52 KG/mm
St185 Rear - 2.2 KG/mm

So very low compared to the 10KG/mm TRD coil-overs!

I have had a play around fitting std st185 & st205 springs to the others struts and top mounts a couple of years back and IIRC the rears did not sit right at all - can't remember about the fronts. (maybe I didn't try them!)

Good info DJ, a lot more technical than my stick a sack of spuds on the spring and measure deflection to see which deflected most.

My results suggested that ST205 springs were stiffer ( lookinga t your graph at circa 25KG = sack of spuds this would just be the case).

Interesting that ST185 has greater rising rate of spring as you get more load.

I intended on measuring the coil wire dia, coils per inch and the oustide of coil dimension to calculate the spring rate. Unfortunately this was shot to pieces when I looked at a spring and realised they were rising rate! Another case of armchair engineering not applying in the real world!

Will run better test, just oem toyota springs require an offset base, will preform a 0 - 500 kg load test now they cannot escape.

Don't have a 205 rear spring to hand, all gone to scrap man.
