~1.6 bar when warm and at idle, rising to the oil spring pressure of 6 bar at "some" revs, (205 figures)

Note pressure measured engine side of oil filter.

Measured similar pressures with my old take off plate vs my new position in the oil blanking plug above the oil filter

On my car I had sensors in both the head and down by the filter for about 2 months.

At idle warm I see about 1.3 bar at the head and 1.7-8 at the filter.

At about 4k rpm warm I saw about 3.7 - 4 bar at the head and 5.5-6 bar at the filter.

Darren - whats the project?

Cheers :)

Working on something to eradicate oil pressure surge, oil pressure loss & pre oil an engine before start-up.
Basically a dry sump solution but not dry sump if that makes sense 8)

aah yes came across this a week or so ago...

On initial start-up when the valve on the oil side is opened the pressurized oil is released into the engine and therefore pre-lubricating the engine prior to start-up.

The Accusump holds whatever oil pressure the engine has at the time that it is shut off.

After the engine is started and the oil pump has taken over, oil is pumped back into the Accusump.

This moves the piston back and pressurizes the Accusump until it equalizes with engine's oil pressure.

While driving, if the engine's oil pressure is interrupted for any reason, the Accusump releases its oil reserve again, keeping the engine lubricated until the engine's oil pressure comes back to normal.

This release of oil could last from 15 to 60 seconds, depending on the size and speed of the engine.

In racing or hard driving conditions, the Accusump will automatically fill and discharge when needed as you corner, accelerate and brake.

Have you seen the price of them though :(

Also, one of a useful size for pseudo dry sumping is about the size of the petrol tank lol

I posted about these, ooh must be about a year ago, on OC

Cheers Stevo,

Hummm good point about the cold oil from the accumulator when it kicks in :? :?

How far did you get with your investigation par chance??

**EDIT**

Have sent a mail out to them to see what the score was with the cold oil & here is the reply...

"darren, this may be the case in certain instances but for the most part the oil in the accumulator will recirculate a little bit depending on if the engine needs the oil or not."

Just thinking about how many people & race teams run this set-up with no reported problems so it's making me think that colder oil entering the system in a surge type case isnt really that much of a problem/issue :? :?
