As part of my ongoing clutch and suspension replacement project I have got to the stage where the subframe is off the car. I'm weighing up the extent to which I'm going to go with replacing the costly lower arms etc but I have encountered a bit of a problem... the bolt which fixes the nsf lower camber control arm to the subframe won't come out to play. It turns with force but feels like it's stripped the thread. I'm now concerned that I've got quite a big problem on my hands. Has anyone encountered this issue? I'm wary of continuing to try to unscrew as it feels like I'll be wrecking the thread on the subframe. The only good news is that the frame is off the car so i can work on it separately.

Just drill it out and helicoil it? If you brought it through here I would take it to work and do it for you if you like. It would end up a coarse thread instead of a fine thread though but I doubt that matters youl need a new bolt anyway.

You shouldn't be looking at too much to get hold of a good condition replacement subframe. I bought a whole rear setup including diff and all the arms for about £150 a little while ago so I would have thought that £50 would get you a replacement.
Or as Seanyboy says drill and helicoil - I'd investigate a replacement first. I assume you have tried all the usual tricks of heat, penetrating oil etc?

Applying some serious heat usually works wonders!

Thanks for the input guys. I will have a better look at the problem this weekend... Seanyboy I may be in touch! Heh. If it all goes Pete Tong I believe I can get a sub frame for @ £60.

No worrys mate just give me a message if you need it done. 60 pounds for a new one isn't too bad though.

After much grunting and swearing, the bolt still held fast having moved 10mm then sticking firm, then crack. As the other end in captive inside the subframe the grinder came out and a square access hole cut. Turns out there's a nut which is meant to be welded in place on the other side, and it had broken loose, still firmly stuck on the end of the bolt!
