I did a load of research on this a few years ago. I run two radiators for my charge cooler, the standard one which is old and probably no longer as good as it could be, and a smaller custom radiator hidden behind the inlet in the front wing.

To start with a new radiator would help, I`ve had a nice custom one built (so I can remove the little wing mounted radiator and the standard one) but yet to fit it. Its bigger than the standard radiator so should help cool things down as it is the weak point in my system after I fitted my home made charge cooler. Its a bit unsightly so I will be making another one using bits from the standard charge cooler and fitting my own internals

I chopped the top off of a standard charge cooler as was quite surprised how little the cooling area was, about 15-20% of the cooling vains inside are taken up with the filler cap area, a place for the level sensor and where the direction of flow changes. In total only about 70% of the inside of the charge cooler is dedicated to cooling.

The easiest way is as mentioned before, fit water injection. and a new radiator. short of that the only way to make things better is to build your own or go custom.

Uh.. I just found pics of the uprated/bigger ic water radiator I projected and had it make 10 YEARS AGO before going ATA FMIC...
Time passes very fastly...

FOUND!

Anyway it's a bit disappointing when you read people think now about "new" mods you already thought/projected/made/tried 10+ years before... makes me feel OLD!

Stephen > I was just planning to create a bit of a 'flat bottom' for the front 18"s or so underneath. First off it'll help airflow under car but also force air coming through the bumper into the rads and not out underneath. As the new chargecooler rad is about half the height of the main engine rad I was going to place a baffle across the centre section of the bumper to the top of the chargecooler pre-rad. This will channel the top opening in the bumper for the engine rad only and leave the bottom opening going through the oil, p/s and chargecooler rads aswell as the engine rad behind. I'll also put side panels in to keep the whole lot boxed in :)

LOL - this thread I started back in 2005.

Went away - did my research and calculations...

For road use I decided that a chargecooler setup could function well with better cooling capability.

For track/race use where you are constantly generating heat from charge temps I don;t think it will keep up.

FMIC for me ;-)

same, i find that i believe on slow use the cc is superior, but as soon as you get wot runs on tracks i cant see how a large fmic can be beaten, if they could, why would all cars not use the same approach?

and people using data logs would surely show how much better the cc was if at all?

its a shame as to me the gtfour is the cc and i think it looks top but for reliabillity in track use i feel it has to go

Sunny,
a friend of mine that lives 10 kms, is a famous rad fabricator... World superbikes championship teams like bmw and suzuki, ducati motogp, wrc cars... A bit expensive though...

Hi Mook

I have some under trays ready to fit
so I think now is the time!

I disconnected my PAS cooler when it decided to be porous.
Not sure of the benefits in our climate?

Stephen

Great info Nial and Wolf :)

I have measured the temps with a WTA setup, (stock), and my FMIC... the temps are much cooler with a FMIC, so much so that you have to stop using WI to help control the inlet temps...

Upgrading the WTA system is great and certainly works, and is MUCH easier than fitting a FMIC - that is a right royal PITA!

Someone asked earlier, (I think in another thread), yes, you can retain the aircon with a FMIC, but it just adds to the pain you experience!

Removing the aricon radiator realises a lot of space at the front of the car, not to mention an easier passage for cooling air to reach the engine coolant radiator, but I suppose that depends on what you want to do with your car?

:)

I remember an older thread where a NZ guy made a custom "monster" charge cooler pre rad: http://www.gt4dc.co.uk/forum/viewtopic. ... ight=#5414

Result: aeration & increased inlet temps :?
