BAH,

I hoped that replacing the engine, brakes, superstrut etc etc would buy me some years of trouble free motoring..... I was wrong :(

My last trip resulted in a very tedious trip home with loads of vacuum but no boost :(
Turbo was making no turboey noises and the exhaust note was deafaning so I knew it wasn't a split hose

So today was investigation day

Nothing obvious externally and the turbo appeared to be reasonably intact so I pulled the downpipe off for a better look

What greeted me was this, could have been worse I suppose

The pin on the wastegate has come clean off

Now bodged back together with an undersised nut and bolt (some bugger has nicked the batteries for my cordless drill so I had a bit of trouble 'drilling' the wastegate arm out  )
Need to figure out a permanent solution now. I think turbo off and weld a clevis pin in place of the snapped off item. Hopefully the bodge will last until it warms up a bit

That has been slowly failing on you steve - the nature of the rusted/clean shear indicates that.

At least your shaft hasn't snapped (ooo-eerrr mrs). Could be a right royal PITA to fix proper. Turbo removal and probably plenty of heat to removed turbine housing.

oh.... love to say I told you so :-)

Hmmm, looks like a call to Mr Kershaw's turbo emporium is in order!
