AS subject , toyota epc shows different numbers, prices for st205 super strut parts = more expensive than super strut parts for Carina.

Who knows if parts are interchangeable and why such a price difference between them... ?

Can't directly comment BUT...
MarkCL had a Levin with SS and it was not the same - almost a minimeee version.

Coudl be worth a check to see if the Carina shares part nos with a Levin

what is a levin JP.

part number are different from st205 to 191carina.

need to know, just blown out drivers side SS .

Levin is sort of a corrola saloon, there was a supercharged version iirc.

A google should turn something up.

DJ - Toyota have produced several cars with Superstrut.

From my experience whilst the parts look similar in the EPC, the 205 seems to have the strongest, (thickest) parts - probably to do with the loads and weights involved?

Cars I know of that had SS - ST202, ST205, Jap Gen 7 Celica, Levin, Carina GTi

I'm sure some more poking about will show more cars fitted with these items. Interestingly enough on some models this appears to be an optional extra?

The st205 parts are the strongest. Just look at the struts of 202 vs 205.

BTW - 205 can be easily redone to McF type suspension - you just need to replace 205 subframe with 202 McF subframe with all rods, arms, etc..

Transmission - also compatible with 205 are:
Carina ED MT 4WD
Corona Exiv MT 4WD
Rav 4MT 4WD with 3s engine

In acc. to homologation requirements, 205 allows the redone of it to McF - the mounting points are kept in the same geometry.

Nice info again!
Have you tried swapping St205 super strut to McF? Any idea if the ST202 subframe will accomodate the 4wd system ok?

On a side note - what 4wd Toyotas did you get overseas? Any Corrollas?? or even Levins or Yaris'?

In teh Uk we seem to have quite a restricted range and not many 4wd.

The 205 SS units are rebuildable, have stripped down the lower arm, banana arm & figure of 8, in general failure on ball joint & pivot is from going dry , then rusting causing nylon cup to wear out before it should.

It just a shame they use 3 sorts of taper, otherwise replacement would be very simple.

Grease nipples would increase life span without doubt, this is probably what i shall install.

changing course slightly, who knows what oil to use for 205 front dampers.

Yaris - ??? don't know
Levins - no 4wd
Corolla FX - no 4wd
Corolla sedan - yes, with MT/AT optionally

205 - yes, 202 sf will easily accomodate 4wd, just some slight tricks with tools etc - & it's yours :)

I don't know how strict is the law in GB, i.e. is it deadly prohibited to do smth (modding etc) with civil-road cars?

In our swamps/boondocks it's prohibited (more or less), but every problem with officers could be solved with some cash - so the dont give a *bleep* how loud is your exhaust or the ecology of your engine.

That's why I saw some cars (205) with McF.
I've even driven 2 of them - much rough & durable, than SSS, I oughtta say, but on the steer I can't say something instead of the fact, that 205's are rather bulky stuff with bright understeer - doesn't matter - neither McF, nor SSS - the same cow on the ice :))) But it's clear even with SSS when speed comes to hairlifting limits :).
As I'm talking about stock specs, of course my opinion is sheding only over stock specs.

So - in point of sport (rally) SSS looks too itty-bitty to rely on it, in comparison to McF.

Mcphersion strut fit 205 without changing subframe , basic install requires different upright.
as for oem lower wishbone , its not something I would use in the conversion, adjustable is a must, road going parts are designed to limit the grip factor , hence its handling ability is somewhat lower than a comp build for sure.

As for issues converting road parts for on & off road use, could cause problems, depending which muppet behind the work,would be more concerned over the increase of DIY work from folk who have no understanding apart from reading stuff from manual / online topic prior to work,only later selling a possible death trap, this seems on the rise.

The setup of the SS is heavy increase unsprung weight.

The SS function over performance is poor when compared to other setups....., fact is double wishbone weighs less offers better outcome in most area's of performance control..

Mcf offers the same levels of hairlifting limits as you put it :lol: for sure.

If ss creation was so top market why so few camps use it :wink: , it's over complicated for something so crude, weighing way to much, increased unsprung weight etc etc, for what little extra it has to offer in return/

nature of its pivot is floored , smallest amount of wear causes catastrophic result from the way it works.

any way still after toyota recommendations of damper oil . any one..

the lower arm joint is held in the same way as the figure of 8.

all can be replaced using after market fittings, however its a service i will not be entering, only on entire build programs.

Carina GT SS major parts will not fit ST205.

having received mages from Nick, carina uses clamp style balljoint not taper type, surprised i did not pick that up on the epc.

arms are thiner & smaller.
