As i'm rebuilding my St205 short block i was going to replace the big end shells. But where are the size markings for the shells?

I want to also replace the piston rings, how do i find if they are standard, the only markings on the piston heads are 2b. Anyone tell me what this stands for?

If you look on the block on the face that mates with the sump there are some numbered markings... these help with the sizing up.

But, to be honest, the only way is to assemble and measure, with something like plastigauge...

I "think" these are only one size, and you then gap them to size the ring end clearance you want.

If you are rebuilding an engine then I'd recommend boring the block to get it all "square" again. If you measure it you will probably find a very small amount of ovality and that it tapers, biggest at the top.

I have decided to get the crank plastigauged at a machine shop. As far reboring the block, this engine has done very little mileage, so i'm just putting new piston rings on and honing the cylinders.

Bits are all sorted, new piston rings and big ends.

Cylinder head steel gasket sorted for £40.

Thanks for your advice guys.
