We’ll its happened, I’m finally on the way with the CS restoration, head is off and just waiting for a nice day to drop the bottom end and transmission.
I’ve also got all the front suspension units removed and stripped ready for CV gaiters, bottom ball joints and poly bushes.
However nothing is straightforward and I have found both my ABS sensors are broke with the remains still in the hubs, I guess this is why I’ve never had ABS! It was going to be my plan to remove the complete ABS but now I know it’s just the sensors I’m wondering what is the best way to fix them. Anyone else come across this problem and prices etc? Dorris

I'm guessing the remains can be removed by a bit of careful drilling.

Try places like TCB for secondhand (or even new) sensors.
Be a bit wary buying secondhand as they are easy o damage getting out, and most are rusted in. Alternative is buy spare hubs with working sensors in.

I have a full second-hand set (front and back) of ABS sensors.
They worked fine before being removed.
They all look as if they came out properly, that is, they are complete.
The only thing is that 2 of them have the wires chopped.
I wont be needing them so...
If you wont them, you take them, fit them, make sure they work thereafter we can see about payment.
How does that sound

Do you know if there is a connector further up the loom for the sensors or will I need to splice the new ones in? Dorris

Sounds like a good plan mate, I can only imagine the rears would be the same condition, I should have the rear suspension apart by the end of next weekend, so yes mate will gladly take them off your hands. D

2 of them will be direct plug into loom (they have the connectors on).
The other 2 will need to be spliced into the existing loom.
Will try and get some pics up next weekend (a pictures worth a thousand words ).

That’s OK as I couldn’t see the connector inside the inner wing so I assume its inside plus mine are knackered so slicing them isn’t an issue. Cheers mate, Dorris

Good to hear you've made a start on your CS ABS sensors have a habit of breaking on old Fours when you try and remove them!

So it seams Don, I assumed that my ABS didn’t work because I had a ring missing off one of the drive shafts but seems it was the fact that all the sensors are knackered.
I remember you mentioning something about Polly bushes and the greasing of them. Can you recall what the problem was as I will soon be fitting the fronts?
Also I had a quick look at the pistons still in the liners and I’m getting an awful lot of piston rock within the liners, won’t know more until I drop them out. Dorris

I've always fitted polybushes without lubrication although with the ARB's I found that if you use the little sachet of nylon grease supplied with the bush that this can attract road dirt and over time become a very effective grinding compound!

If the pistons are enjoying a bit of rock and roll I suspect that the ringlands have made a bid for freedom!

if teh broken sensor is still stuck in there, take a screwdriver and hammer to the *bleep* and punch it out. then replace with new. generaly on teh front hub carrier, the sensor with break in half and not come out cleanly. Need to just kill it and carefully put in new sensor

I used a suitably sized socket (around 10mm IIRC) with an extension on it and hammered it out - didn't require a large hammer
