Hi folks,

Need some help with my brake discs. I bought some brake discs and to make sure they would fit I gave them my reg number, vin number and told them it was a jap import as well but ive just went to fit them and their too big.

I bought them 3 months ago so cant return them. Is their any way I can modify the existing brakes to fit or would I need to buy replacement brake calipers?

what model car do you have and what part number are the disks?

I suspect this is going to be a late brakes versus early brakes on an ST185.

My suspicion also. I thought it was uk (large) vs jap (small).

secondhand calipers aren't hugely expensive and it's a worthwhile upgrade.

Early JDm St185 has Uk St165 discs & calipers. (twin pot calipers)

Later IIRC around mid 1990 have Uk st185 brakes & calipers. (single floating pot calipers)

Yeah my 1991 JDM ST185 had the later larger brakes.

go all out and do the ST205 conversion

205 conversion is very involved on a 185 front in that the 205 disk fouls the bottom swivel. Requires longer studs / spacers behind the disk, then the calipers can't fit in the original location as the lugs foul. TBH less hassle to go for an aftermarket kit if you need track spec brakes.

The easiest 'cheap' upgrade is TT disks and 185 calipers with spacer plates made from 10mm steel plate. These are apperently prone to warping if constantly used hard.

alternatively buy a set of Carbotech XP10 pads off of me and that will solve any of your brake disc or pad problems.

haha, Carbotechs all day long for me, saves on big brake upgrades and i can get them at fair prices being a good friend of their sales manager.

kou - You will need to buy the 255mm discs and sell the other discs, otherwise buy the single pot brake calipers and sell the old two pot calipers.

The later spec / Uk spec calipers & discs bolt straight on and are a worthwhile upgrade.

To use the discs you have bought you will need to find some late spec single pot calipers and pads. Should be pretty cheap.

Disc size info:-
st185 late spec with single pot calipers= 277mm x 25mm
St185 early JDM/ st165 with twin pot calipers = 255mm x 25mm

Single pot calipers we bought for £17.99 each and have just been serviced, cleaned and painted ready for fitting on Saturday then car is in for its mot on Monday

Still dont fit this car is startin to annoy me now. They are about 5mm. Think ill sell the discs and the rest of the car
