When I get back from Taiwan I will be starting the reshell on my ST205. I`m in two minds as to what route to take...well three minds really and was wondering what everyone else thinks/advice from people who have done projects before.

I have no time limit on this, it will probably take me a while (you`ve seen how long it takes me to do airbox builds etc)

It wont be a half arsed project, everything will be cleaned/polished/painted/replaced to as high a standar as I can manage/afford.

My initial idea was to do a full on TTE replica, but I think that it would be too expensive and would leave me with a harsh car that I dont enjoy driving.

This leaves me with two options......a more or less standard car with a slightly more powerful engine. (Leave in the back seats, nice sterio, quiet exhaust..more of a GT cruiser type thing, a generally nice place to be) Perhaps the cheapest option and in some respects the most appealing....but then I`d always be thinking "Wish I`d made it more Rally"

Second is a kind of hybrid between the two, from the B-Pillars back would be TTE style, role cage, no back seats, but I would put in a carpet and some nice audio.....forward of the B-Pilar would be more or less standard...no roll cage to bang my head on, a stereo and home comforts, mixed in with rally style dash, guages etc (all built in...non of this stuck on tat.)

Wheels will be black evo milleniums more than likely.

Of course the car would be repainted in Fiat Tipo Blue (like my old one)

Is two cars an option?

Reshell yours into a mint shell for the GT option and use the old shell for a more hardcore option

I think you've answered your question then! If two Fours isn't an option I'd head down the softer GT cruiser style approach. I've seen some really neat and tidy ful roll cages recently but a half cage would also work and not intrude too much. I'd limit the power to 350ish so its not too much of a pain to drive. Suspension I'd also go no more extreme than 4 point adjustable although if you are planning on tracking the car and can afford it then TEIN SuperStreet and EDFC would be nice :D

Problem with a full TTE Replica is getting the 6 Speed X-Trac gearbox. Last time i looked this was £15k alone... :s

I wouldnt even bother looking for one of those...maybe if I was making a real rally car I would but as its a "replica" I`d stick with the standard gearbox.

More realistic is doing a replica or tribute of the Group N ST205 rally car. If you do a search on here you'll find some pics of one at Castle Combe a couple of years ago. N.B. This is real, not a converted road car. Spec is supposed to be 'showroom' for Group N but I think we all know what that means

I`ll go down either the GT route with a hint of rally...or the standardish car. My finances wont stretch much beyond that.

Probably wise - even if us mere mortals manage to save to buy the gucci bits, repair or replacement would be very painfull.
