Steve, dont forget I have tracked my car in various guises for over eight years now and the engine is still OK. Its only since I fitted the MoTeC and been able to run consistently > 330bhp on track that the problems have emerged. Track sessions tend to be around 20-30 minutes which equates to around ten laps on most circuits.

I wouldn't want to give the impression that you have to mod an ST205 to the hilt to get it to survive on track because that is patently untrue. I suppose if you went out and bought a set of cut slicks and bolted them on then you could run into trouble but you'd have to be barking to do that wouldn't you

The sooner I get this track day guide written for the website the better!

I totally agree but you have to be aware of what you're dealing with

The 205 is fine on track providing you don't push the limits
I know you tend to do 5-6 lap stints with an hour cooldown betwixt.
If someone just threw a stock car on track and ran 20 laps I think there'd be a big bang. Mind you most cares will suffer in this way

ENJOYING.. THIS THREAD

Think I'm still in favour of an oil cooler plus water injection with the power below or around 350. 8)

Anyway forget about the car... 5 laps methinks will be more than enough for my brains ability to cope with the reactions. Happy just watching the 24hr stuff.

the down side is they let go pretty quick when they do...great stuff :D

Clearance between a lowered car and the road is tight but it is manageable! It's better to leave the stock suspension on if you plan on dangling the coolers closer to the road

Looks good Kris, was there not enough space to mount the G/B & A/C Rads to the front??

Do I spy a Corolla WRC Manifold somewhere too?? :? :?

Why do you want to mount them in front of the IC rad? .....I was quite keen to mount the G/B rad on top of the IC rad but Kris reckons this would be quite fiddly. The easy option is to leave it sandwiched between the IC and A/C rads

Kris, is there something we should be told ?

The gearbox oil cooler requires relocating between the air conditioner radiator and the intercooler, the use of metal pipes are required for connection, due to the limited space between the intercooler and front panel.

The power steering cooler requires repositioning, ample room between the air con/rad and intercooler for fitment, just working out which system to use.

A few options would be:

a small 5 row cooler, with supplied pipe work,
Relocating the stock unit with additional pipe work.

Having problems locating a 3-row oil cooler, cost affectively, awaiting the response of further inquiries.

A 5 row would cost about forty pounds sterling, with another twenty pounds for pipe work and fittings.

Choice of unions type, will change pricing somewhat.
The use of braided stainless hose would make sense, with stainless tubing, yet again waiting for response to inquiries.

I am in the process of working out other possible sources.

A simple work around would be to use 10mm copper pipe, with swaged ends, stainless steel jubilee clips and braided hose, this would allow the use of existing coolers, just relocating and plumbing the piping in. would be the budget route.

I don’t see a problem; it’s a case of going though all options and finding the best cost effective route, with a simple install procedure.

I have a few more images

Jon, you may be aware I'm in the process of completing my on-board sensor array (sorry if this sounds a bit like Star Trek   ) My intention is to carry out extensive testing of the oil, water and charge cooling during the coming track season. The data will then enable me to make an informed decision on what size rads to fit.

My other objective is to thoroughly test the swirl pot and header tank under track conditions. installation of this has been delayed due to problems with my original design. I have now come to the conclusion that there is no alternative but to remove the ABS and relocate the power steering reservoir to provide room on the wing for the header tank. The swirl pot will also require the battery to be relocated :( .... I was hoping to avoid this.

Glad to here that some one else is using a date logger with a hole bunch of sensors.

wow looks like you will be busy...a bit of a job to move the abs system.. for a swirl tank.

surley other ways..
to allow for all the iterms to fit..maybe make they smaller using a replicator lol..

wish you luck. back to work. so cold, need hot meal to stay alive..

Hey i want some pipes for my 185.
i have ditched the a/c so i hope to have enough space for all the coolers..

i have a nice B&M cooler that i pilfered from my 5.7 Chevy before i sold it which i could mount some where very easily to cool something..

engine oil maybe or to replace one of the tatty looking coolers that are dangling where the air con once lived..
