It will be very interesting to see how much a 15" or 16" set up (less metal more rubber) compares weight wise to a 17" or 18" set up (more metal less rubber).

I guess what I am saying is keeping the rolling radius the same what will weigh more and by how much, big alloys with low pro rubber or small alloys with high pro rubber?

Has anyone got any magnesium alloys

there seems to be a massive jump in weight from 17" to 18" rim .Will be nice to cut through the usual guff that is said about wheel weights.

Anyone have Stock St185 & ST205 wheels with either brand new rubber or no rubber at all??

I'm trying to look at the wheel weights data recorded on this website www.wheelweights.net the only links that work for me are 'Wheel Technology' are 'Eunos/Miata Links'...Is it just me being a spud or is it the same for all of us?

Avalini 7.5x18 rims - 11kgs (generic Khan 5 spoke replicas)

205/50 R15 BFG Profilers - 7.6kgs (3-4mm tread)
205/55 Avon ZZ3 - 8.3kgs (3-4mm tread)
205/55 Pirelli P7000 - 8.6kgs (5-6mm tread)

The tyres weights arent as new but the overwhelming factor in tyre weight is not the tread, rather the steel belting construction. Thus from the above you can see the large difference between the 50 profile and 55 profile. The 300g difference in the Avons vs Pirelli's will be down to construction in part and tread depth in part. As the area of the sidewall is a square of its height, small changes in sidewall height have a larger effect than small changes in width with regards to weight.

Can you tell me the size of a standard 185 alloy (15" x 7"?)...and were all the tyres you weighed 15 inchers?

All the tyres were 15's, I have more in the garage but they are completely gubbed (zero centre tread etc) so discounted them.

I believe the standard 185 rims are 6.5 x 15 but I'm not actually sure. (going out to the garage in 5 mins and have a ruler out there, I'll let you know )

Bit frustrated at the moment actually, I weighed a standard set of ST205 3 spokes with their specified tyre size when I had some on loan and I'll be damned if I can find the bit of paper with then info on it.
